Example: Psycho-educational Assessments

After completing a Psycho-Educational Assessment on a school aged chid, I met with the mother to review the results of the assessment. The results revealed her child has a Learning Disability in Reading. After explaining a reading disability; I described how it affects learning in school and the positive effects my recommendations may have for the child. These include passing classes as well a potential high school graduation and post-secondary education.  At the end of the meeting, the mother looked at me and said:

“When you were talking about my son and the reading disability, you were also describing me.  I wonder how my life would have been different if I had an assessment and diagnosis when I was in school.  I ended up just dropping out of school.”

Having more information about an individual not only assists immediate school or life plans but can also have positive long term consequences.
